Children and elderly people often cannot properly coordinate exhalation, inhalation, medication spraying, and breath-holding, resulting in the sprayed aerosol not reaching the lungs and the therapy becoming ineffective. A spacer facilitates and simplifies the inhalation procedure and can be used by patients of any age, but is recommended for ages 1-5 years.
