The book consists of 10 stories in which the older sister Jete tells her little brother Bruno, who will soon start kindergarten, about her experiences there to help him overcome his insecurity. However, although Bruno doesn't really know what life is like in kindergarten, he occasionally wonders and asks questions to which Jete always skillfully finds answers.
After the first evening story, the reader gets a hint that perhaps everything is not as it seems. The mother remembers how little Jete, who still
couldn't speak well, sat on the teacher's lap on her first day of kindergarten, not allowing the teacher to stand up - but in Jete's story, this first encounter with kindergarten looks completely different: it's pet day at kindergarten, and a father who works at the zoo has brought a giraffe named Telescope for his daughter, the giraffe sticks its neck through the window of the second-floor room, and then the children, sitting on the giraffe's neck, gallop through the streets all the way to the zoo... In Jete's stories, exciting and often dangerous things really happen in kindergarten every day.
When Bruno's first day of kindergarten finally arrives, he reports that everything was good but completely different from his sister's experience. And immediately the boy demands that Jete now start telling him about her school - because living in stories is so interesting.
